Memorial for Gary Mazzanoble ‘72
Saturday, March 14th of 2009, was the day they chose to pay tribute to a lost friend, Gary Mazzanoble. It was on the beach at 1st Street South and was hosted by the many friends of Gary.
There were two tents set up for guests and family members who attended—Fred, John and Katrina Mazzanoble. Surfboards were hung under the tent along with boards of many, many pictures of Gary. There were special bookmarks (with a prayer that fit perfectly) given to all the guests. Lots of pictures were taken, lots of laughter and tears, CBHS yearbooks, and food and drink. Gary would of loved this gathering of special friends!
Some of the folks who attended: family members mentioned above; Dennis Bennett; Derry & Melody Bilby, Dixie Bilby, Helen Bilby; Steve Burns, Dan and Terri Clark, Diane Childs, Gary and Barbara Downey, Mike Dubua, Joel Fox and Liz Mullins Fox, Terri Franklin, Johnny Gosa; Mike Hanes; Scott Hardcastle; Dan Higgins; Jackie Holland; Tony Jevitt; Bill Johnson & Heidi Johnson; Jocelyn Lowther; Mike McCallister; Steve McConnell; Lila Priddy; the Shadricks; Mark Shroble; Randy, Lee and David Stone; Debbie and Valerie Westman, and I’m sure many others whose names are not mentioned here.
Special words from a special friend:
My friendship with the Mazz started back in the sixth grade. We surfed, played baseball at Edwards Field, started playing football in the 9th grade at Roosevelt Jr High and even played in band in high school. I have great memories during all of those times shared together but what I remember the most was the laughter. Mazz had that ability to make people laugh during the best and the worst of times. If you fell down he picked you up. Mazz taught us how to live life and enjoy everyday. He was that street-smart kid. He always wore his trademark dark sunglasses and took a lot of ribbing for that especially from some of the teachers at CBHS. Looking thru all the pictures I came across were some of Gary and his mom Rose, she also wore dark sunglasses all the time, so you see it was not only the fact they were blind as bats but it was a family thing. Gary never lost his passion for football, friends and especially family. We think about the Mazz everyday and he will always be in our thoughts and forever in our hearts. God bless you my brother and may you rest in peace. We will be together again. Happy Trails…Derry Bilby
